World Asthma Day Celebrated 5th May 2026
World Asthma Day, was observed on Tuesday, 5 May 2026, is a global initiative to raise awareness of asthma and improve the lives of people living with this common respiratory condition. In Aotearoa New Zealand, the day highlights the importance of early diagnosis, regular asthma reviews, correct inhaler technique, and having an up-to-date asthma action plan. As we move into the cooler months, World Asthma Day is a timely reminder to check asthma control, recognise triggers, and support those living with asthma so they can breathe easier and live well.
As buildings and landmarks across New Zealand were illuminated in blue, we stand together to raise awareness of asthma and support the thousands of Kiwis living with this common respiratory condition. The blue light is a symbol of hope, understanding, and the shared commitment to ensuring everyone has access to the care, education, and treatment they need to breathe well. From this World Asthma Day, take a moment to check your asthma action plan, recognise the signs of worsening asthma, and encourage those around you to prioritise their lung health.
Together, we can help create a future where every breath is easier, every voice is heard, and no one is held back by asthma.
